QUANTUM® RECEIVES PLATINUM AWARD FOR “BEST PRACTICES FOR ONLINE DISTANCE LEARNING PROGRAMMING” FROM THE UNITED STATES DISTANCE LEARNING ASSOCIATION (USDLA)

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania — April 23, 2008, Quantum Simulations, Inc., a developer of artificial intelligence (AI) tutoring, assessment and professional development software, received a Platinum Award for its exceptional achievements in software development at the USDLA International 21st Century Best Practice Awards Ceremony held in St. Louis, Missouri last night.

The Platinum award is the highest recognition offered by the USDLA and is presented to leading organizations which have designed and delivered outstanding and comprehensive online programs in distance learning education. Software and other digital learning tools are evaluated based on several criteria ranging from interactivity, use of technology and educational effectiveness.

"As a premier organization for the entire distance learning profession, we are honoring Quantum® as a leader in the industry," said Dr. John G. Flores, CEO of USDLA. "Quantum has raised the bar of excellence and we are truly honored by their contributions to the distance learning industry."

The Quantum Tutors® were developed to address an unmet need for on-demand tutoring in difficult subjects such as chemistry where many students often fail because resources are not adequate to give every student much-needed one-on-one assistance. "My perception was that Quantum® has developed a solid application designed to give a highly individualized user experience,” said George Collins, a USDLA judge and president of LearnTek Corporation, a consulting firm specializing in educational technology. “Their software is a very good use of artificial intelligence, but to my mind, the originality embodied in this package is what really sets it apart from so many others in the competition."

Quantum is unique from other software programs in its ability to help students with their own problems, whether from the textbook, homework assignment or other resource. Furthermore, Quantum® provides detailed, step-by-step feedback on the student’s own work and can answer questions when the teacher is not available to help, such as in the evening when working on a homework assignment or preparing for a test.

“It is an honor to receive this prestigious award,” commented Dr. Benny Johnson, Quantum’s President and CEO. “The USDLA Award Program has high standards and encourages innovation in programming and technology which makes this recognition very meaningful to me and the many talented developers we have at Quantum.”
